It's an Etsy Christmas!

I've been excited to see all the wonderful winter holiday items on Etsy...
...though Halloween hasn't even happened yet...
I do have to admit I was taken aback at Target as in one aisle it was "Happy Halloween" and in the next it was "Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!" being jammed down my throat.

But I've decided, why fight it? Embrace it!

It's true though, before we know it Halloween will be a distant memory, Thanksgiving will be past, and we will be smack-dab in the middle of the winter holiday season. I'm of the age where I'm just starting my own holiday traditions. This may be the year that I get my first Christmas tree (full size)! Do I get a live one... and have it mulched afterwards? Or do I get a pre-lit one? Which is the more environmentally friendly way to go? As I ponder these very important choices... check out these really, really cool Etsy finds...

Lee Ohio Designs has been on Etsy since 2007. However, I've decided to open up a new shop with an new, easier to remember name that is more consistent with my brand. This was a hard decision to make, as I love each and every one of my customers. I hope that you choose to follow Lee Ohio Designs here as well!

The Riddle of the Universe

As some of you may know, in addition to going to school for painting, I also spent a year working on a Master's with a focus on botanical and scientific illustration. Meticulous drawings of plants and creatures have always fascinated me. Ernst Haeckel is one of my favorites and one of the most well-known and well-published scientific illustrators ever. Whether you know it or not, I can almost guarantee you've seen one of his images before. Below is the Etsy treasury I curated in honor of his work and other Victorian curiosities. The top image is a digital collage of photographs I took of herbarium specimens. They are all hydrangeas and it was created in 2006.

Snagged from Wiki is a short bio and photo. Ernst Heinrich Philipp August Haeckel (1834 – 1919) was an eminent German biologist, naturalist, philosopher, physician, professor and artist who discovered, described and named thousands of new species. The published artwork of Haeckel includes over 100 detailed, multi-colour illustrations of animals and sea creatures. As a philosopher, Ernst Haeckel wrote "The Riddle of the Universe."

Included: West Coast Glass, A Cabinet of Curiosities, Good Eye Vintage, K G+A B, Wickedpen: Dancing Girl Press & Studio, Shanon Montrose Photographs, Nouveau Motley, Yellena, Melissa Dixson Taxidermist, Pigeon Toe Ceramics & Plants, Bug Under Glass, & Le Petit Poulailler. Alternates: Sweet Love Vintage, Tricholoma, Cor Ardens, & Time of Origin.

Winter Romance

I'm focusing on my ice cold, snow-filled, Winter Holiday memories from childhood in Maine, as I don't believe my snow will be seen on the Gulf Coast any time soon. With this in mind, I've introduced a new collection into the shop this month.

Think icy.
Frosty.
Crisp and clean.

The Winter Romance collection has the perfect range of pieces for anyone on your gift list (or yourself!). With a focus on delicate hues and that exquisite texture you've come to expect, I've created an opulent line of heirloom quality pieces. They may be delicate, but they are by no means simple or everyday.

I've unveiled the first round in the shop, but rest assured, there are many more pieces to come. This collection will continue through the New Year.

Top: Sown Earrings. Natural saltwater and natural freswater pearls. Brushed sterling silver with 18k yellow gold accents. $168.

The Lee Ohio Designs shop on Etsy: The Winter Romance Collection.
